Meta retaliates: Meta, formerly Facebook, dealt a blow to billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg by launching Threads, a highly anticipated companion service to Instagram. Threads is Instagram’s challenger to Twitter.

The ongoing competition has taken another turn. This new application means to challenge the strength of Twitter, which has been enduring an onslaught because of Musk’s questionable choices and a decrease in client fulfillment.

“Let’s do this,” Zuckerberg wrote in his inaugural post on Threads. “Welcome to Threads,” with a fire emoji in its place. The app attracted an impressive 5 million new users in just four hours.

Threads is similar to Twitter in that it lets users like, repost, reply, and share short text posts. However, it does not support direct messaging. According to a Meta blog post, posts on Threads can be as long as 500 characters and contain links, photos, and videos that can last up to five minutes. On both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, the app is available in more than 100 nations.

Due to its ties to Instagram, analysts have been quick to point out Threads’ potential advantages. Instagram may provide Threads with a built-in user base and advertising platform with more than 2 billion monthly active users. At a crucial time when the microblogging company’s new CEO is working to revitalize its struggling business, this could divert ad revenue from Twitter.

In spite of the fact that Strings was sent off as an independent application, clients can sign in utilizing their Instagram qualifications and follow similar records. Because of its seamless integration, Instagram users can easily incorporate it into their routines.

Head of Financial Analysis at AJ Bell, Danni Hewson, stated, “Investors can’t help but be a little excited about the prospect that Meta really has a ‘Twitter-Killer’.”

On the day that Threads went live, Meta’s stock closed up 3%, beating out other tech companies in the market.

The launch of Threads comes in the midst of Zuckerberg and Musk’s ongoing rivalry. The two men have been fighting for months and have even threatened to hold a real-life mixed martial arts cage match in Las Vegas.

Meta’s entry into social media comes at a good time because Twitter has been affected by Musk’s volatile decision-making. Due to an exodus of advertisers, staff reductions, and content moderation controversies, Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter has decreased its value. Twitter recently restricted the daily number of tweets that users could read.

In subsequent Threads posts, Zuckerberg addressed these issues, emphasizing his belief in the necessity of a public conversations app with more than a billion users. He featured Twitter’s inability to completely catch this open door, communicating his expectations that Strings will prevail in such a manner.

The joining of Strings with Instagram integrates security contemplations. Instagram users who sign up for Threads receive a badge on their Instagram profile that can be hidden automatically. Additionally, users can customize privacy settings for each app individually.

Accounts for Billboard, HBO, NPR, Netflix, Shakira, and the former Chief Operating Officer of Meta, Sheryl Sandberg, were set up shortly after the platform’s launch. A review by Reuters found that the app did not display any advertisements.

Meta has reached out to social media influencers to promote Threads and asked them to post at least twice per day on the platform. Powerhouse advertising organization Persuasive Chief Ryan Detert noticed that Meta has been putting forth attempts to draw in forces to be reckoned with to the application.

Additionally, Threads gains from the difficulties faced by other potential Twitter rivals, such as Mastodon, Post, Truth Social, and T2, who have not yet achieved significant traction. Bluesky, a brand-new service supported by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter,
